'From March to July 1918 this Non Commissioned Officer has served with the section as section sergeant. His work has always been of the highest order and he has set a high standard of courage and endurance to all under him. As Company Quartermaster-Sergeant he has carried the same spirit into his work and has been largely responsible for the successful maintenance of all supplies during operations since August 8th.' Second description reads: 'This Non Commissioned Officer has been in every fight that his Unit has been in since coming to FRANCE. By his unfailing devotion to duty he has won the respect and confidence of everyone in his Company. He has been C.Q.M.S. since October, 1917, and during the recent fighting in the SOMME Offensive he has never failed to get hot food and comforts to the men of his Company, in spite of the most adverse conditions.'
