Found guilty, 1 September 1916, of being absent without leave from No 5 Camp, Larkhill, midnight, 27 August, to 11 pm, 28 August 1916: awarded 5 days' confined to barracks, and forfeited 1 day's pay.

Proceeded overseas to France, 22 November 1916.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 26 November 1916.

Admitted to 10th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 1st Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, 27 December 1916 (pneumonia); listed as 'dangerously ill', 31 December 1916; transferred to Stationary Hospital, Boulogne, 31 December 1916; to England, 7 January 1917, and admitted to Edmonton Hospital, London, 8 January 1917 (pneumonia: slight); discharged on furlough, 20 April 1917, to report to Training Depot, Wareham, 5 May 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 14 June 1917.

Admitted to 39th General Hospital, 25 June 1917; discharged to 3rd Australian Division Base Depot, Rouelles, 10 August 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease (syphilis): 47 days.

Rejoined Bn, in the field, 26 August 1917.

Found guilty, 20 September 1917, of being absent without leave from 2 pm, 19 September, to midnight, 19 September 1917: reprimanded, and forfeited 1 day's pay under Royal Warrant.

Found guilty, 6 November 1917, of (1) contravention of GRO 1599 in that he was absent from his billets after 9 pm; (2) refusing to obey an order given by the Police, in that he refused to go to his Unit when ordered to do so: reprimanded, and reverted to the ranks.
