Wounded in action, 1 June 1915 (gun shot wound, right flank, penetrating abdomen); admitted to New Zealand Field Ambulance, 2 June 1915; transferred to No 1 General Hospital, Egypt, 9 June 1915; to New Zealand Convalescent Hospital, Helouan, 20 June 1915. Re-embarked from Alexandria for Gallipoli. 21 July 1915. Promoted Corporal, 7 August 1915.
