Wounded in action, 1 June 1915 (gun shot wound, right flank, penetrating abdomen); admitted to New Zealand Field Ambulance, 2 June 1915; transferred to No 1 General Hospital, Egypt, 9 June 1915; to New Zealand Convalescent Hospital, Helouan, 20 June 1915. Re-embarked from Alexandria for Gallipoli. 21 July 1915.

Promoted Corporal, 7 August 1915.

Admitted to HS 'Assaye', Gallipoli, 8 September 1915 (bullet wound, back); transferred to No 1 Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis, 11 September 1915; to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, 11 September 1915; to Australian & New Zealand Convalescent Camp, Helouan, 25 October 1915; discharged to duty, 15 February 1916.
