'At NOREUIL on 2nd April, 1917, this Signaller succeeded under heavy rifle and Machine Gun fire in getting his pigeons safely through to the front line. On the way he noticed a wounded man about 50 yards behind the trench we held. After handing over the pigeons he got out of the trench and returned for the wounded man over ground enfilade with heavy rifle and Machine Gun fire and carried his comrade to a place of safety.'
