Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at MENIN ROAD, outside YPRES, on the two following separate occasions:- On 27th September he was in charge of a Bearer Relay Post, he was heavily shelled, and with great coolness and bravery kept his men together, dug out those who had been buried, organised stretcher squads from Infantry near by, and brought in the wounded under constant heavy fire. On 4th October while in charge of a Bearer Sub. division he rescued wounded continuously for three hours under exceptionally heavy shell fire. Throughout he set a splendid example of bravery and coolness under fire to the rest of the men.'
