Wounded in action, 26 April 1918 (gun shot wound, face); transferred to England, 4 May 1918, and admitted to 3rd Southern General Hospital, Oxford, 5 May 1918. Transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 15 May 1918. Granted furlough, 10-24 June 1918, to report to No. 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott.

Proceeded overseas to France, 29 September 1918; rejoined unit, 9 October 1918.

Marched out for return to Australia, 23 April 1919. Married Edith Minnie WOOD, St James Church, Hampstead, 3 May 1919; commenced return to Australia with wife on board 'Demosthenes', 26 July 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 14 September 1919; discharged, 29 October 1919.
