Military Medal

'For gallantry and devotion to duty as a stretcher bearer near ZONNEBEKE eat of YPRES on 18th October, 1917, especially under the following circumstances: Towards dusk on the evening of day mentioned when the enemy was heavily shelling the duckboard line of evacuation of wounded from St. Joseph's Institute to the Railway Dump, and demolishing a good portion and causing heavy casualties, Private DRAKE several times carried wounded men through this fire. By his personal courage and wonderful cheerfulness he inspired his fellow bearers to assist in this very dangerous work.'
