'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty at MOLENAARLENSTHOEK on 30th September, 1917. Private DREW maintained the wires from his Company Headquarters to Battalion Headquarters throughout an enemy barrage and continuous heavy shelling. His work had to be performed under direct observation of the enemy and snipers were continuously firing at him during his work. By his perseverance and devotion to duty communications were maintained throughout. Later he was wounded by a snipers bullet while carrying out line repair work.'
