'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty whilst acting as a Battalion Runner in the vicinity of ZONNEBEKE on the 4th October 1917. Pte. DUFF carried messages continually through many heavy barrages. When the relay man was killed he continued on and delivered the despatched to his Officer in the front line. He has previously done excellent good work. East of YPRES.'
