'During the advance on the 18th September, 1918, near LE VERGUIER, Corporal Duncan's work was of a consistently high order throughout the action. Early in the day he went forward with one man to reconnoitre his Company front and came back with valuable information and 12 prisoners. he then, with a patrol of our, endeavoured to get in touch with the Battalion on our right, and again came into contact with the enemy. These attempted to escape, but Duncan moving with great speed cut off their retreat and brought back over 40 prisoners. He kept control of his men and maintained his direction under most difficult conditions and at all times set a most inspiring example.'
