Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations North East of BELLICOURT on 29th September/1st October 1918. During the advance on to our objective this Sergeant took charge of Company H.Q. Staff when his Company Commander had been killed and his Company Sergeant Major had been badly wounded. He immediately reorganised the party and went forward with the advance. He eventually was wounded but yet he remained on duty and kept perfect control, showing great leadership in leading his section under heavy Machine Gun fire. Although wounded he remained on duty for many hours afterwards and not until ordered would he go out. His courage was magnificent.'
