Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack. He formed part of the attacking wave, and when the advance was held up by an enemy machine gun post he rushed towards it. Several men followed, and the gun was captured. Throughout the day he made several journeys with wounded through heavy shell and machine gun fire, and, although wounded, continued this work for some hours before he was sent to the dressing station.'
