Detached to Lewis Gun School of Instruction, 23 November 1916; rejoined 56th Bn, 4 December 1916.

Admitted to 15th Australian Field Ambulance, 9 February 1917 (septic sores, leg and body; scabies); transferred to 1st Anzac Scabies Hospital, 16 February 1917; to 3rd Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 17 February 1917; rejoined unit, 19 March 1917.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 2 December 1917.

Wounded in action, 1 September 1918; admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance (shell wound head; fractured skull); transferred to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 2 September 1918; died of wounds, 22 September 1918.
