Embarked Fremantle on 'Itonus', 19 February 1915.

Embarked Alexandria and proceeded to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, 16 May 1915.

Admitted to 26th Casualty Clearing Station, Gallipoli; transferred to 24 Casualty Clearing Station, Mudros, 3 August 1915 (contusion, right arm). Embarked HT 'Tunisian', Mudros, and disembarked Alexandria, 3 January 1916.

Admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis, 13 January 1916 (alcoholism); discharged to duty, 17 January 1916, and returned to unit, 18 January 1916; taken on strength of 3rd Reserve Regiment, Heliopolis, 6 March 1916. Transferred to Mounted Military Police, Tel-el-Kebir, and taken on strength, 2 August 1916. Transferred to Anzac Provost Corps, Moascar, and taken on strength, 21 November 1916. Transferred to Anzac Police Corps, 21 December 1916.

Found guilty, 3 January 1917, of drunkenness whilst on active duty: awarded fine of £1-0-0; taken on strength of 3rd Light Horse Training Regiment, Moascar, 13 January 1917. Transferred to 10th Light Horse Regiment, Masaid, 16 January 1917; taken on strength, 18 January 1917.

Sick to hospital, Shellal, 3 July 1917; admitted to 3rd Light Horse Field Ambulance, Sueilma, and transferred to 2nd Stationary Hospital, El Arish, 4 July 1917; to 24th Stationary Hospital, 5 July 1917 (pyrexia); to 14th Australian General Hospital, Abbassia, 7 July 1917; to Convalescent Depot, Abbassia, 9 August 1917 (malaria); discharged to duty, 22 August 1917, and taken on strength of 3rd Light Horse Training Bn, Moascar.

Found guilty, 11 September 1917, of being absent without leave, from Reville, 8 September, to 9.30 pm, 10 September 1917: awarded 10 days' Confinement to Barracks and forfeiture of 3 days' pay; forfeited total of £15-0-0.

Transferred to 10th Light Horse Regiment, 14 September 1917, and taken on strength, Shellal.

Found guilty, 29 June 1918, of being absent without leave, 5.30 am, 26 June, to 3.00 pm, 27 June 1918: awarded 14 days' Confinement to Barracks and forfeiture of 2 days' pay.

Killed in action, 31 July 1918. Extract from Court of Inquiry held at Abu Tellul held by order of Lieutenant Colonel TJ Todd DSO on 2 August 1918 to inquire into and report on the death of 794 Trooper Michael Dwyer, found that Dwyer and another man were killed in action on 31 July 1918 whilst registering ranges with a salved Trench Howitzer and that no blame was attributable to anyone. Buried on 31 July 1918 by JS McDonnell.
