'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. He did excellent work in giving direction to the flank of the attack, and kept in touch with the unit on his right. He went forward with two men and captured an enemy regimental commander and his staff. He then worked all over the captured area, and collected valuable documents and information. He did splendid work throughout the engagement.'
