War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 7 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 21 November 1916; marched in to 1st Training Bn, Larkhill, 11 December 1916. Qualified as 'Very Good' at 11th Lewis Gun School, Group Headquarters, tidworth, 8-12 January 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 13 March 1917; taken on strength, 3rd Bn, in the field, 1 April 1917. Admitted to 1st Division Rest Station, 26 May 1917, and transferred to 56th Casualty Clearing Station (nephritis); to 2nd Stationary Hospital, Abbeville, 5 June 1917; to England, 6 June 1917, and admitted to Norfolk War Hospital; transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 6 July 1917; discharged on furlough, 2 August 1917, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 16 August 1917. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Suevic', 27 September 1917; disembarked Sydney, 20 November 1917; discharged (medically unfit: nephritis), Sydney, 19 February 1918.
