Military Medal 'For consistent devotion to duty under enemy shell fire. On the morning of 20th September, 1917, at ZILLEBEKE, and during a bombardment by the enemy with gas shells, Driver EAST voluntarily returned to stand by and assist another lorry which was in difficulties. After a wait of some time he finally towed the lorry in question to a place of safety. This man has at all times shown a special devotion to duty under adverse conditions.'
