Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations against enemy positions south of the SOMME east of HAMEL on 8th August, 1918. This N.C.O. was in charge of a line detachment. Prior to Zero hour Lance Corporal EASTON with his party succeeded in keeping Brigade communications intact, despite heavy gas bombardment. Although lines were repeatedly cut by shell fire, with great perseverance and intrepidity he again and again repaired them thus ensuring effective communications through a critical period. After Zero he did magnificient work in the maintenance of lines in the captured territory. He set a splendid example of courage and devotion to duty under great difficulties inspiring those working under him.'
