'Near ZONNEBEKE on 16th October, 1917, this N.C.O. was in charge of a section of sappers making and repairing a duckwalk track which was suddenly barraged by the enemy. Corporal EASY succeeded in getting his party under cover with the exception of one man who was wounded. At great personal risk he went back into the barrage and assisted the wounded man to safety being himself wounded while doing this. On 13th, 14th and 15th October, 1917, whilst employed upon similar work in the forward area, which was often subjected to heavy shell fire, he showed great coolness and courage and by his own personal example kept the men at work and so increased the amount done.'
