Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When his Corporal was wounded he took charge of his section and bombed the enemy continuously for two hours, capturing 50 yards of trench. Throughout he controlled the men with splendid courage, and set a fine example.'
