War service: Western Front

Embarked Sydney, 19 December 1917; disembarked Suez, 16 January 1918; re-embarked Port Said, 24 January 1918; disembarked Taranto, Italy, 2 February 1918. Entrained Taranto, 5 February 1918; detrained Cherbourg, France, 12 February 1918. Embarked Cherbourg, 12 February 1918; disembarked Southampton, England, 13 Febnruary 1918, and marched into 5th Training Bn, Fovant, 13 February 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 6 May 1917; taken on strength, 18th Bn, 12 May 1918.

Wounded in action, 19 May 1918 (gun shot wound, left leg), admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 61st Casualty Clearing Station. Transferred by Ambulance Train No 25 to 7th Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, 20 May 1918; to England, 24 May 1918, and admitted to Military Hospital, Eastboiurne; transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 14 June 1918; discharged on furlough, 17 June 1918, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 1 July 1918. Marched in to Overseasd Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 20 July 1918. Found guilty, 31 July 1918, of failing to salute an officer of HM Forces: awarded 2 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Proceeded overseas to France, 8 August 1918; rejoined unit, 15 August 1918.

Admitted to 5th Field Ambulance, 30 December 1918 (pyrexia unknown origin); discharged to duty, 7 January 1919.

Embarked for England, 6 June 1919. Granted leave with pay and subsistence, fees eight pounds, eleven shillings, five pence, for Non-Military Employment, attending Mansions Motor Garage, 78 York Place, London, 23 July-23 October 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Konigin Luise, 18 December 1919; disembarked Sydney, 7 February 1920; discharged, 18 March 1920.
