Distinguished Service Order 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. He led his company undr heavy fire with great skill and complete contempt of danger. When he came under heavy machine gun fire from a pill-box, he bombed the enemy machine gunners and put the gun out of action singlehanded, thus preventing many casualties. He captured and consolidated his objective. His courage and leadership contributed largely to the success of the operations.'
