War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (Gallipoli Campaign), 30 August 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, ex-Mudros, 7 January 1916. Found guilty, 16 January 1916, whilst of active service, being absent without leave from 16 January 1916, until 17 January 1916: award, admonished, and forfeits 2 days' pay. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 26 March 1916. Charged 2.46 francs for loss of pull through and mess tin, 6 May 1916. Reported as killed in action, 5 August 1916; now, 8 September 1916, reported as 'with unit, 5 August 1916'. Awarded Military Medal, 21 December 1916. Taken on strength of 2nd Australian Divisional Traffic Control, 23 October 1917. Disembarked England for duty, 2 October 1918, and to report to Australian Imperial Force Headquarters, London.
