Military Medal 'On the 1st September, 1918, during operations North of PERONNE, Private ELLIS singled out enemy snipers and Machine Gun nests and on several occasions went well forward of our position in face of heavy fire and engaged the enemy single handed. After the objective was reached the Company was harassed by flanking fire from the enemy. ELLIS again went forward and succeeded in killing one of the enemy Machine Gunners, and also inflicted further heavy casualties.'
