'During a German attack on the morning of April 15th, Battery positions in LONGATTE Valley were heavily shelled. Notwithstanding that gunner ELLIS was severely bruised and shaken by a wall being blown on to him, he continued to carry out his duties and maintained communication between 37th Battery and its O.P. under exceedingly heavy enemy Artillery barrage of H.E. and shrapnel, thereby enabling Group Headquarters to keep in close touch with the situation which at that time was critical.'
