Military Medal 'During the operations at BROODSEINDE RIDGE east of YPRES on 4/5th October, 1917, this man was acting as No. 1 of a Lewis Gun team and showed great courage and coolness during the advance. Under heavy rifle and machine gun fire he displayed great initiative and skill of a very high order in the handling of his gun, by taking it forward and covering the attacking parties at the strong posts at BROODSEINDE RIDGE. When the objective as reached he showed great judgment in selecting a forward position and effectively silencing opposing snipers who were troublesome.'
