'For gallantry and consistent devotion to duty. He has rendered valuable service from 4th July, 1918, to 31st December, 1918. In this period he has at all times, under fire, supervised the preparation of food for men in the front line, going forward with cookers and personally seeing to distribution, many times under heavy shell fire, and close to forward line. He has proved a great asset to the Battalion and his services under all conditions cannot be too highly estimated.'
