Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations east of YPRES 4/8th October, 1917. This N.C.O.'s gun team and carrying party came under the enemy barrage while waiting to attack. Cpl. ERWIN by his coolness under the heavy fire rallied them and got them forward, himself showing an absolute disregard for personal safety.'
