Statement, Corporal GORDON, 35th Bn, Red Cross File No 00206019 [undated]: 'Came from Australia with me, on the Benalla, 1-5-16. He was in B Coy. On the morning of 12-10-17, we were attacking at Paschendale (sic), when he was severely wounded by pieces of shell. He was being carried from the trenches by Stretcher Bearers, when he and bearers were all killed instantly, being hit by shell. Was an eye-witness of his death, but cannot give any details of burial, as we were advancing. He came from England and was a seaman. Height about 6ft., Stoutly built, Fair complexion.'
