Embarked Sydney on 'Ayrshire', 24 January 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 12 April 1917, and marched into 4th Training Bn, Codford. Proceeded to France through Southampton, 16 July 1917; marched into 4th Australian Divisional Base Depot, Havre, 17 July 1917; marched out to unit, 2 August 1917; taken on strength of 15th Bn, 4 August 1917.

Wounded in action, 16 August 1917; admitted to 13th Australian Field Ambulance, 17 August 1918, and transferred to 4th Australian Field Ambulance (shrapnel wounds, left hand, leg and spine); to 4th Divisional Rest Station, 17 August 1918; discharged to unit, 22 August 1918. Admitted to 13th Australian Field Ambulance, 15 January 1918 (oedima of the hands); discharged to unit, 18 January 1918; moved out from field, 25 July 1918; marched into 18th Australian General Base Depot, Havre, 26 July 1918; assessed as being classification B.3 at Medical Board Base Depot, 31 July 1918. Marched into No 2 Convalescent Depot (Class C.2), Weymouth, 1 August 1918 (chronic rheumatism).

Found guilty, 6 September 1919, of being absent without leave, 3.00 pm, 4 September, to 3.00 pm, 5 September 1918: forfeited 2 days' pay; forfeited total of 3 days' pay.

Commenced return to Australia on HT 'Runic', 23 September 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 26 November 1918, for onward travel to Brisbane. Discharged as being medically unfit for service, 31 December 1918.
