Admitted to 15th Australian Field Ambulance, Ferry Post, 30 April 1916 (injured knee); discharged to unit, 7 May 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 16 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916.

Found guilty, 7 July 1916, of creating a disturbance after 'lights out': awarded 2 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Wounded in action, 19-20 July 1916; subsequently posted Wounded and Missing, 19-20 July 1916.

Base Records wrote to sister, 29 August 1916: 'I regret to inform you that No 80 Pte. S. Farlow, 29th Battalion, has been reported wounded. It is not stated as being serious and in the absence of further reports it is to be assumed that all wounded are progressing satisfactorily.'

Note on Form B103: 'Identification Disc received from Germany. No particulars afforded except that soldier is deceased. To be reported as KILLED IN ACTION FRANCE 19.7.16.'
