'On 19th October, 1917, this N.C.O. was in charge of a party laying and repairing a duckwalk track to DE KNOET FARM near BROODSEINDE, near YPRES. It was important in view of a Brigade relief that the track should be in good order. Enemy shelling continually destroyed the work at may points, but despite this he persevered with the work and by his example and devotion to duty inspired his men to continue, with the result that the track was kept in good repair and the relief greatly facilitated.'
