Admitted to ship's hospital, at sea, 12 July 1916 (measles).

Proceeded overseas to France from England, 9 September 1916; taken on strength, 60th Bn, in the field, 9 October 1916.

Admitted to 36th Casualty Clearing Station, 1 December 1916 (trench foot); transferred to Ambulance Train No 23, 2 December 1916, and admitted to 3rd Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 3 December 1916; transferred to England, 6 December 1916, and admitted to 2nd Southern General Hospital, Bristol, 7 December 1916; discharged on furlough, 29 January 1917, to report to No 4 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 13 February 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 4 June 1917; taken on strength, 46th Bn, in the field, 28 June 1917.

Found guilty, 16 July 1917, of neglecting to obey an order issued by his superior Officer: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 7 days' pay.

Wounded in action, 8 August 1918 (gun shot wound, chest), and admitted to 8th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to 20th Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 33, 14 August 1918, and admitted to 53rd General Hospital, Boulogne, 15 August 1918; transferred to England, 26 August 1918, and admitted to 16th Canadian General (Ontario Military) Hospital, Orpington, Kent; transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 18 September 1918; discharged on furlough, 23 September 1918, to report to Littlemoor Camp, Weymouth, 7 October 1918.

Marched in to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 16 October 1918.

Marched out to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 28 November 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Orsova', 8 January 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 27 February 1919; discharged (termination of period of enlistment), Melbourne, 6 April 1919.
