Proceeded overseas to France, 12 November 1916; taken on strength, 53rd Bn, in the field, 24 November 1916. Found guilty, 5 January 1917, of disobedience of orders: awarded 3 days confined to barracks. Wounded in action, 26 September 1917 (gun shot wound, left wrist), admitted to 3rd Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to 10th Casualty Clearing Station, and then to Ambulance Train; transferred to and admitted to 14th General Hospital, Wimereux, 27 September 1917; to England, 28 September 1917, and admitted same day to 2nd Military Hospital, Canterbury; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 3 October 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 8 October 1917.
