'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty Sapper FINNISS was acting as linesman on 11th August 1918 near HARBONNIERES when an enemy shell hit the signal office causisng eight casualties to the Signal Office Staff. Communication was of the utmost importance as the attack had just commenced. He assisted an N.C.O. to restore communication, working under an enemy barrage repairing and testing lines. He showed great courage and exceptional ability in carrying out his work, thus enabling communication to be established without loss of time.'
