Proceeded overseas to France from England, 16 September 1916; taken on strength, 9th Bn, 30 September 1916.

Admitted to 39th Casualty Clearing Station, 30 November 1916 (dysentery); transferred to 1st General Hospital, Etretat, 2 December 1916; to No. 2 General Hospital, Havre, 3 December 1916. Discharged to Base Details, 13 January 1917; rejoined Bn, 22 March 1917.

Wounded in action, 7 May 1917; admiited to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station (shell wound, upper right arm); transferred to No. 3 General Hospital, Treport, 8 May 1917. Transferred to England, 23 May 1917, and admitted to Graylingwell War Hospital, 24 May 1917. Transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 4 July 1917; discharged to No. 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 20 August 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Suevic', 27 September 1917; discharged, 21 December 1917.

Total war service: 2 years 2 days (of which 1 year 170 days were abroad)
