Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This officer was informed by the Engineer Officer that an enemy machine gun post prevented him laying a tape to mark a fire trench it was intended to dig. He immediately took six men, and attacked the post with resolute courage, capturing six of the enemy and two machine guns. The initiative and prompt decision of his action, which was performed in the face of a heavy sniping fire, saved his company from heavy casualties, as the machine guns would have covered the ground over which the men would have advanced.'
