Remustered as Driver, Ferry Post, 1 April 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 25 June 1916.

Admitted to 14th Australian Field Ambulance, 20 June 1917 (trench fever); transferred to 56th Casualty Clearing Station, 21 June 1917; to Ambulance Train No 29, 28 June 1917, and admitted to 12th General Hospital, Rouen, 29 June 1917; discharged to No 2 Convalescent Depot, 12 July 1917; marched in to Royal Engineers Signals Depot, Abbeville, 17 July 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 21 July 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 10 August 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 22 August 1917.

Wounded in action, 24 April 1918 (gassed), and admitted to 15th Australian Field Ambulance and transferred to 61st Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to Ambulance Train No 38, 25 April 1918, and admitted to 16th General Hospital, Le Treport, 26 April 1918; transferred to No 1 Australian Convalescent Depot, Le Treport, 30 May 1918; discharged to Base Depot, Havre, 20 June 1918; rejoined unit, in the field, 2 July 1918.
