Joined Bn at Moascar, 5 February 1916. Found guilty, 28 February 1916, of being absent without leave, 6 am-10 pm, 28 February: awarded 5 days' confined to barracks and forfeited 1 day's pay. Transferred to 47th Bn, 3 March 1916. Promoted Corporal, 14 March 1916.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 2 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 9 June 1916. Transferred to 12th Machine Gun Company, 25 July 1916.

Reported missing, 8 August 1916 (but in fact wounded in action); transferred from 6th General Hospital, to Ireland, 15 August 1916 (gun shot wound, right leg), and admitted to King George V Military Hospital, Dublin, 17 August 1916; discharged to duty, 23 October 1916. Granted furlough to report to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 8 November 1916.

Admitted to Military Hospital, Parkhouse, 30 November 1916; discharged from hospital, 18 December 1916; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 19 days.

Admitted to No 1 Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 17 January 1917; transferred to Military Hospital, Parkhouse, 8 February 1917; discharged, 16 April 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 90 days.
