War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Taken on strength, 1st Bn, Gallipoli, 3 May 1915. Reported missing, 6-11 August 1915, but in fact wounded in action; disembarked Malta from hospital ship, 14 August 1915 (bullet wound, right hand and leg); admitted to St George's Hospital, 18 August 1915; transferred to All Saints' Camp, 4 September 1915; discharged to duty, 4 January 1916. Embarked for Egypt, 4 January 1916; rejoined Bn, Tel el Kebir, 11 January 1916. Transferred to 53rd Bn, 13 February 1916; to 5th Pioneer Bn, 3 March 1916. Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 25 June 1916. Found guilty en route, 8 July 1916, of disobedience orf orders by entering a farm house at a halt without permission: awarded 1 day's Field Punishment No 2. Found guilty, 7 December 1916, of when on active service overstaying leave from 5 pm, 2 December, until 10.45 am, 6 December 1916: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 5 days' pay.
