Military Medal

'For gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack on enemy position in the vicinity of MORLANCOURT near ALBERT on the night of 5th/6th May, 1918. Prior to the attack he laid a cable to an advanced report centre near the enemy lines. An enemy patrol fired at and wounded him. He returned the fire and the patrol withdrew. Although wounded he remained on duty at his telephone and refused to be relieved until the completion of the attack. His action ensured the maintenance of communication at a most important period, and valuable information was sent back to Battalion Headquarters.'
