'At GUEUDECOURT on 6th December, 1916. A working party in front line came under barrage fire of heavy shells; Corporal FLEMING was mainly instrumental in guiding them to a place of safety. He then returned and searched the trench for a missing man being twice knocked over by the concussion of shells during the search, found, and brought him in. When the fire slackened he brought the party back onto the work and completed it besides clearing and repairing the front line. During the whole time he showed the greatest coolness and initiative.'
