'During the operations on the 29th September this N.C.O. acted as coverer and was in charge of the Limbers and Wagon Teams of the forward Section which had come into action in front of our Infantry Line South East of BELLICOURT. The enemy heavily machine gunned the position and the teams, causing many casualties to the horses and somewhat confusing the Wagon Lines. One limber upset and a wagon became bogged in a shell hole. This N.C.O. took charge, by coolness, presence of mind, reorganised the teams, extricated the wagon, and largely assisted in the movement of the guns, which was ordered. Throughout the occupation and subsequent move, this N.C.O. rendered the most valuable assistance to the officer in charge, by the manner in which he handled a difficult situation. It was largely due to his efforts and example that the section was moved to a more suitable position rapidly and with a minimum of casualties. His excellent example and devotion to duty are worthy of special recognition.'
