Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as forward observation officer with the right infantry brigade. He made a valuable reconnaissance and eventually formed an advanced post with some Lewis gunners in advance of our own protective barrage line, where enemy concentration could be plainly seen. His messages enabled the artillery completely to disperse two large concentrations. Throughout the day he was under extremely heavy fire.'
