Military Medal

'Near LE VERGUIER North West of ST. QUENTIN on 13th September, 1918, this man showed exceptional bravery. When his platoon had passed their objective by 1000 yards the enemy endeavoured to cut the platoon off, and were working along a trench to their rear in strength. Private GARRAND volunteered to stoop them with bombs and so cover the withdrawal of the platoon, which he successfully did, inflicting several casualties on the enemy, and withdrawing himself only when the platoon was out of difficulty. He also assisted in capturing 22 prisoners on his way back to his platoon. Throughout the operations his determination and devotion to duty were worthy of the highest praise.'
