Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. While in charge of a section of machine guns his post was surrounded. He quickly shifted his guns so as to fire to the rear as well as to the front and by inflicting heavy losses on the enemy, who had passed and were attacking the second line, matterially assisted in holding out until a counter attack re-established the line.'
