Military Medal 'On 20th September, 1917, during the attack at HOOGE this man was one of a party with the Liaison Officer who took part in this attack with the 8th Battalion. Communication having failed during a portion of the advance he on two occasions returned through heavy hostile shelling, with the greatest determination and devotion, to the Group Headquarters with important messages and brought back the replies to the observation officer who was in our front line. In so doing he exposed himself to the greatest risks and performed valuable work.'
