Military Medal 'During the attack on MONT ST. QUENTIN, near PERONNE, on 31st August 1918, and when entering the village during the mopping up, this N.C.O.'s party was held up by an enemy strong point. He carefully worked round the flank of the enemy, and finally charged the position, personally killing 2 and taking the remainder, numbering 6 prisoners. This daring and initiative on Sergeant BALMAIN's party proved a big factor in allowing the advance to continue.'
