Other detailsExtract from a letter from the "front" published in the Queensland Times on 17 September 1915, Pte Ashley Lord described the heroism of Lt Banff of Coominya. "Lt Banff was the hero of his first engagement. He was shot at an early stage through the shoulder blade and even with his arm hanging useless and the bone protruding, he stuck gamely to his task and repeatedly brought his wounded men into shelter under deadly fire. "never a cooler or more efficient man have we seen there. "Loss of blood and sheer exhaustion eventually compelled him to be taken to the rear and he was subsequently sent to the hospital at Alexandria."
