Military Medal 'This Non-commissioned Officer is a member of the Battalion Scouting Section. On the afternoon of the 26th March 1918 he carried out a very daring reconnaissance into, and in the vicinity of HEBUTERNE, prior to the advance of the Battalion. Whilst engaged on this work, he encountered an enemy patrol which he promptly engaged. He shot one member of the party at point blank range, and the remainder dispersed. He then proceeded with his investigations, despite the great personal risk involved. For his very gallant conduct on this occasion he is strongly recommended for distinction.'
